Association of the Vertical and Sagittal Growth Patterns of Jaws with the type of Third Molar Impactions: A Radiological Analysis

Objective: To evaluate if the jaw growth patterns are associated with third molar impactions.
 Design: Cross-sectional study.
 Study setting: Orthodontics Department, Islamic International Dental College & Hospital Islamabad, Jan to Jun 2018.
 Methods: We analysed records of 300 mandibular and maxillary molars specific criteria. Orthopantomogram Xrays were used identify impactions classified by Pell Gregory (P&G) Winter lines. In addition, lateral cephalograms assessed for sagittal classes vertical patterns.
 Results: Angles impaction (Winter lines) M3s significantly patterns(p=0.021), most mesioangular found in Classes I II. High-angle subjects resulted highest patterns. High angle was followed low normal M3s. Levels showed a significant association (p=0.016), at level C. The maximum number impacted M3 coexisted P&G Class- II B both jaws.Conclusion: Significant associations between angles, patterns, levels Results conclude that facial not completely independent may help predict status adolescence aid orthodontic treatment.
